Each state and territory runs its own screening unit, which is why fees and processing times differ. The clearance itself is nationally portable, so you only need one regardless of where you work.

Why Costs Differ Between States

Screening fees are set by each state's Worker Screening Unit, not the NDIS Commission. Western Australia currently charges the lowest fee at $104, while Queensland is the most expensive at $147. These differences reflect each jurisdiction's administrative structure rather than differences in what gets checked.

If you have a choice of which state to apply through (for example, if you live near a border), applying in the cheaper state is a valid option since the clearance is accepted everywhere.
